Time for Action

It's under two weeks until the 12/24 hrs of Exposure, which will see the Crack Velocake MTB Race Team (6 ft Plus Division) make a second crack at the Newcastleton course.

11.5 miles in length and 550 or so metres of climbing - it's the most singlespeed-unfriendly course I've ever ridden, so in a fit of common sense, that's staying at home and the geared XC bike I've been riding regularly for the last 9 months or so is propoted to Weapon of Choice.

That said, it's a great course and I'm looking forward to it, and have been since I finished the 2010 event. I'm still allowed the odd flash of nervousness though - apparently a solo 24 is a reasonably hefty undertaking... :-)

So, here's to Newcastleton and a gathering of the 'Cake Massive.

Oh, before someone called Mikey asks, the forecast, according to Metcheck, is for sun.........

I hope they're right with the weather.
Can we have a 'how many laps will Grant do?' competition.

I'll start the ball rolling with 12.

Good luck anyway

I'm not really gay said...

I'm taking the pussy option and going for the 12 hour race, well when I say race, I mean ride obviously, and as usual am seriously under prepared and have picked up a chest infection to boot, what can possibly go wrong ?.

I'm calling 14 for Grant, as long as the heat stroke doesn't kick in :-(

is there going to be a sweep stake on this? creme egg for the winner.
i'm going to prepare to be amazed and say he'll do 10. Anymore will be a beautiful bonus. (10 because Jamesy will be alseep all night when he needs him most)

I'm calling 13....leaves me time for a cheeky nap before the dawn lap!

Managed to get a hold of the Velocake gazebo again this year so we'll be protected whatever the weather and I've got plans to bring a wee BBQ and Malt for the pit crew ;-)

I'll give you 3 and a bit laps and a broken bike.

is it too earlier for a Makin card to make an appearance?

Pete said...

Tom,

You could have had 11 there. 11 still up for grabs. Lucky 11.

Pointless doing a practice lap before a 24 solo. You're just wasting energy IME.

11 would mean I couldn't put my bet on a broken bike early on. Where's the fun in that :0)

Mullerton said...

but how will he know how to ride the tricky bits when at full racing speed?
Grant may i suggest you walk the course first and visualise each corner by turning your hands infront of you.

then play a Makin :)

Mullerton said...

Tom, say 11 with a broken bike half way round the 11th lap

15 then. Nice round number, 150 miles. Makin will play a blinder and put demons to bed. Or something. Healing vibes in advance and virtual jelly babies.

Steve said...

Ah bum, maths fail. 150 miles then

It's more to set a pace and ensure that I don't spend the first couple of laps riding too fast, allowing the red mist to descend and trying to cath or keep up with other riders.

Oh, one of you has mentioned my target number of laps.

Was it Tom?
