Hup Hup Buttercup

The start of the 2010/11 cross season is just around the corner and it's already time to start dusting off the cowbell.  This is exciting news for probably about 5 of us in VeloCake, who will be competing in one form or another.
Those of us in the Northwest will have to wait until next weekend, those north of the border have until next month to perfect their mounts/dismounts but down here in the southwest it all starts on Sunday with the South Hams festival of cycling. (by festival, they really mean an easy up and a couple of balloons).
What they do have though is a real Belge style up and over scaffold bridge which never fails to make things interesting.
The other highlights must be the two night time rounds, one at the hallowed ground of Newnham park Plymouth and the other is the in the Park and Ride (??) at Taunton. The last one is new this year so it should be interesting if nothing else.

Typically large crowds line the sandpit at last years South Dartmoor cross.

2010/11 Calendar

Round 12: Sunday 2nd January (LEAGUE FINALE): Certini Cross, Mayflower Sports Centre, Central Park, Plymouth, Devon, PL2 3DG.

I'm sure Simon will be disappointed to not see the Ivybridge flat flooded football pitch round this year's calendar, oh well the couple of new rounds should make up for it.

One final thing, if any VeloCakers, Cheeksters or Belgians think you fancy mixing it up it the, erm, nicest 'cross league in the country and driving 600miles or so for a weekend away and a one hour race, then, mi casa su casa. Just don't bring a Tri-cross.

park and ride? is there a bus up any likely gradients?

Mullerton said...

yes. it's a bendy bus so you can keep riding down the middle.

Hm.....I can't seem to get motivated by cross this year.

Not sure why.

There's even a race just up the road (on the same site as the accidental race win in April but only sharing about 25% of the course at most....) but I just can't get into the mindset.

The crossbike being broken doesn't help.......

What was the point of posting again? I Dunno.

Go Mike! We'll be looking for top ten at least from you!

The NW starts with a double header next weekend (Preston then Keswick), not sure I can be arsed though.

very disappointed with the absence of Ivybridge, was looking forward to that lovely muddy playing field again. Oh well.

Mullerton said...

whats wrong with everyone? MTFU all y'all, get them bikes fixed.
don't worry simon, ivybridge'll be back next year woop.

grant said...

What's wrong with me? I have no freaking idea.

LAcking inspiration and motivation...

Simon said...

I have a place reserved for the Preston round now. Guess I better do it!

Grant, sort yourself out! No power rangers in cross races :)

grant said...

I need a slap......I admit it. :-/

grant said...

Sorry, the first race was tofay and there's no write-up. That's pretty slack if you ask me. :-)

Simon said...

I agree

grant said...

About the slap or lack or write-up?
