Anglo-Scottish Team Ride Action

In what is in danger of becoming an annual occurrence, I met up with Jon Bateman for some Scottish trail action. Unlike last year's Glen Tilt epic, this year saw something a little less epic and a little more forest based in my local patch. A little place called Blairadam Forest.

Clad in matching Velocake jerseys (a happy accident, as opposed to being planned at all), we exited the car park and headed to the trails.

The route? Well, we went up, down, up, down, up, dow, up then I think down. There may have been a flat bit in there somewhere. It's one of those places where, if you know it, you know your way around. If you don't, you need a guide...only a handful of people *really* know their way around that place. Over a decade of exploring, building, more exploring, building and a shedload of riding means I have a reasonable degree of knowledge of the place. :-) (And lucky for the other Scotch Velocaker James, I've shown him it all)

Vagueness about the route aside, we rode woodsey singletrack, some boardwalk, the odd steep chute, some off camber stuff. We nipped in and out of the treeline, used the odd access road to connect section after section, off the more popular lines and into some of the little secrets James, myself and a core of others have discovered, opened up or brashed/built over the years.

We had sun, we had showers and as we worked back to the carpark, we had a monsoon, which thankfully passed and 2 1/2 hours after we started, we ended up back in the carpark, browner and more tired than when we started but hopefully happy. My post-Selkirk legs appear to have finally recovered......
