Back for the Attack

It begins again.

Friday 29th January - REBORN, like a phoenix from the ashes, kissing a lazy January goodbye in a frenzy of pedalling.

Thursday 4th February - THE CENTURY

Sunday Feb 28th - CYCLOCROSS

Then.....MORE.

Ladies and germs, it's time to dig in. It's time to pin it. It's time to ride.

Good luck with the century.

I was thinking of doing the Cheshire cat route but it's looking more and more unlikely.

Woop woop! I am glad to see that you're back.

I felt like I was the only VeloCaker still pedalling! ;-) I guess now that I have carried the VC torch (slowly) through this miserable January you "pro's" can have it back! (Which is good as my legs are getting tired!) ;-)

Good luck for your century ride BTW! .... You must be bonkers!

frick me, are you doing a metric ton or imperial? and in february!!

whats the cross a happening?

(i don't know why Al's not getting into the swing of things. team spirit al.

VeloCake said...

btw Dokken??

did you have a misspent youth listening to crap metal?

grant said...

I'm hoping for an imperial but if my right thigh doesn't stop cramping at 20 miles+ it may end up being metric.

The loop planned has a few bail points built in.

Cross - a one-off race near Edinburgh with minimal info available other than the date and location.

Metal - a childhood (and adulthood) spent listening to both crap and good metal, though only the good metal remains.

And I did a metric last January.

That was like a bit of magic for me. (see post on previous thread) (second thoughts I wouldn't bother)

My identity is re-instated, that's better.

Now for some mediocre drivel...

Oh, Mr Cake, hope the mojo is showing signs of returning.

VeloCake said...

pete, what are you on about? what was magic?

is there such a thing as good metal :p

Good metal!

Like Def Leotard and that Jon bon bon chap?

I like that guns n roses myself, very good!!

Take me down to paradise city.......... and so on!!

There are good examples of every kind of music.

Well, in theory anyway..........

If I ever pedal myself to a ton (in one stint) I will be quite chuffed.

I have recently been into classical music which I used to think was really boring. First it was jazz, then this. I even found myself listening to the organist entertains!!!

But I know my dignity as an appreciator of music is intact... because when its friday evening and 'Friday night is music night' comes on I'm re-tuning muy rapido. What is that program trying to do? (Radio 2)

Peter, did you hear the Boston Pops last night? wonderful!
when are you wanting your badge of honour? i've been carrying sodding stickers round all week.

VeloCake said...

btw, in a penzance cafe at 08:30 today, they had a miles davies album on. normally....but hey. it sounded just right!

cool daddy-o

As for the Boston pops, well I guess he could be some old blues geezer. Did i miss much? It would be nice if Eric Burden, Ronnie James Dio or maybe Rod Argent could do a guest stint on The Organist Entertains. I would like very much to hear their interpretation of Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside. Menacing bossa nova.
Jazz Cafe. nice

I have been treated to The Killers and Michael Jackson this evening.. might be time to question paternity.. DNA etc.

I am still dead excited about getting some stickers, so thanks for hanging on to them. I will endeavour to pick em up this week.

VeloCake said...

Peter, you are treading very dangerously close to being a sad teenager with no music taste listening to dio. argent are passable, but dio jeez.

i'm going to have to do a 'cake what you can like music page.

i'm going to have to do a 'cake what you can like music page.

Done yet? :-)

VeloCake said...

dokken will be at the top of the velocake bands you should be listening to list don't worry

VeloCake said...

only three days to go, how are you feeling Grant? all loose and raring to go?

grant said...

[Grumble] Don't even like Dokken [/grumble] :-)

As for preparations....

The time off is sorted. My legs feel fine but I'm a bit worried about cramping - I've been cramping on road rides at the 20-25 mile (1 1/2 hour) mark recently either because of the cold / under-hydrating / pushing too hard.

However, 2 hrs on the MTB yesterday at a pace politely described as 'sensible' was fine as was 1 1/2 hrs on the cross bike previously (50% road/trail).

I'm just worried about low temps and ice at the moment..... 2 deg c feeling like -1 to -4 according to Metcheck and I'll be heading northwards and into the hills and even lower temperatures.

Here endeth the readying of the excuses. :-)

Ah, it'll be fine.

You'll be reet! Just pack a load of "Rocky Road" in your back pocket and a bottle of whiskey under your helmet - just in case!

You can do it! *waves encouraging piece of cardboard with some scrawl on it*

grant said...

Can I have a picture of a piece of card with something encouraging scrawled on it? :-)

grant said...

Its only gone and fricking snowed overnight and is still snowing now....

Ace. :-/

KatieCake said...

Sorry Grant, it was only a encouraging piece of cardboard (I find cardboard a great motivational tool) that happened to have some scrawl on it rather than "a piece of card with something encouraging scrawled onto it"!

Sorry if I miss-led you! ;-)

grant said...

It was good enough for me, so thanks.

Next, you have to be waving it by the roadside as I pass.... :-)

Sitting here working out route alternatives just in case....

VeloCake said...

grant, i can send you a text message every hour if you want

grant said...

Cool, thanks. I'll send you the number. :-)

I should be setting off at around 10am on Thursday if things go to plan.

grant said...

Famous last words...... Not playing a Makin card, but the conditions may force a rethink ..... Final decision after tomorrow's school run......:-(

grant said...

No card played. Knackered. :-)

VeloCake said...

well done grant. you are the first and possibly the only velocaker to do a ton this year. (with the exception of john, but he does 600km audaxs for fun)(oh and i'm sure simon will do one once he's back riding)
still, well done you are a winner!
