Mythbusters

Today's mudfest at Leverhulme Park proved conclusively that the theory 'shave your legs, shave your laptimes' is completely wrong. If it wasn't for a heroic effort on the last lap I'd have been beaten by the V70 winner, Ian Small. I felt like I'd cheated him as well - he'd passed me on the previous lap and pulled away a bit but I followed his lines and they were good, energy saving lines. I took these same energy saving lines on the final lap and dug deep into my reserves, passing him on the muddy scramble and managed to pull away by the finish. So there you have it, my small victory today was beating someone in his seventies. I rock! Others fared better - Timmy K lapped me, Jenn came 2nd in the ladies with Amy not far behind. More importantly though, doughnuts were consumed after the race :)

Some muddy pics (Grant, take note of the ace mud clearance - no clogging issues)...

rear clearance

Ti Lovliness

fork clearance

silky smooth

So the results are now in...
TimK - 33rd
Jenn - 67th (2nd woman)
Amy - 72nd (3rd woman)
Me - 89th

Well done all :)

Yay! Congrats on your success! I'm impressed... I know what the over 70's are like. They keep me on my toes at work.

Also superb work on your 1st VeloCake post! :-)

Grandad Al, I have 2 words for you.... one rhymes with duck and the other rhymes with cough!

You're just jealous as you cant remember being as young as me!

VeloCake said...

consider yourself lucky Alan. she only lets you get away with it because she looks on you as a cheeky elderly grandad who smells a little of wee.

Lol, I was going to race this event because it's previously been a quick relatively mud-free course.

You should have gone, it was ace!

The pain is a distant memory Mike ;-)

ooOOOoo Simon, I just noticed your shaved leg photo! You best be careful walking past building-sites with those pins!

It's winter, they'll be staying covered :)

Who else raced today?

Of course, as usual we made a 400 mile round trip to slog round a shitty field.

full report and photographs to follow, bet'cha all can't wait!

redbike, thanks from dropping by again, nice to have you back.

Simon said...

Excellent, can't wait :)

wow Mellocake sounds cool, why didn't we call it that.

katie says she loves you really, in the same way as a pair of old slippers.

I'm not really gay said...

hey Barnes, dont diss yourself about Ian, he was a national champ back in the sixties, old me rock

I hope :-0

and Jenn must have rocked as well considering she was out with us until gone two, dancing and drinking like a seasoned pro :-)

Simon said...

Oh aye, Ian rocks, but I'm at least 34 years younger than him! Today's last ditch effort gave me a 3-0 record against him this season ;-)

Simon said...

Oh and plenty of people I've beaten this season kicked my arse today.

It was ace fun!

The mud was very sloggy but not that cloggy, except all round my front derailler!

Doughnuts were of course the highlight!

Al said...

If only i were as useful as a pair of old slippers.

VeloCake said...

Simon, are you gloating about beating a 70 year old? even if it is Ian Small!

Simon said...

Not gloating, just relieved!

VeloCake said...

Simon, did you manage to recruit Jenn? Although would a rider with loads of ability, skill and talent throw the kharmic balance of VeloCake

Simon said...

Sorry, I forgot to ask, although she only had one doughnut which must count against her ;-)

grant said...

Jenn's talent would balance perfectly well with my lack of.

Noooooooooo

you're not the shaving legs type surely!

I am now ;-)
